Greg Lukianoff is an attorney and president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education. His writings on campus free speech have appeared in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and the Washington Post, in addition to dozens of other publications. A regular columnist for the Huffington Post, he is a frequent guest on nationally syndicated radio programs and has made numerous television appearances, including on the CBS Evening News and Stossel. A long-time Access/Excel VBA developer, I've become very comfortable with my very capable DAO. But, ADO is essential for some tasks, especially accessing remote 'large-scale' RDBMS such as SQL SERVER, Oracle... The author covers the complete ADO object model and describes well how to employ the hierarchical nature of its various objects and methods. I found it quite interesting just from an academic point of view. I needed outside RDBMS connectivity, and though it took a while to find exactly the example I needed (there are many approaches), I did find approaches which delivered what I needed. Latter 1/3 to 1/2 of the book is in 'reference manual' style. Personally, very glad this book is available, I have much more to learn from it, and glad it is among my Kindle collection.

I was a C programmer in a former life and was thrown into VBA programming with Excel. As I developed, I realized some basic database functions would be helpful. I looked at the available books and picked up three of them - this book has the information like I need it. Although the examples are given in VBA, it is a simple process for any programmer to translate these concepts, classes, and examples into any other language they may be using. I now use this book as "the reference" for my expansion into Javascript and Java as well. Without this book and the methodical presentation, I'm not sure ADO would have been usable to me. After only a few months, this is still on top of my book stack and dog-eared.

I have read many different computer books. Although most of the authors seem to know their stuff, they often lack the ability to organize their thoughts in a clear, concise manner. If you, as I did, make any attempt to learn ADO from the many books on VB out there, you will discover that none of them presents the subject in a way such that you can start writing code immediately in a way respectable to the programming community.Jason Roff's book presents the entire subject making one assumption: The reader does not know anything about ADO. The book is well organized and complete. The progression from one chapter to another is logical. It is quick reading. By the time you reach chapter 4, you will be successfully connecting to databases. The author possesses a thorough knowledge fo the subject. This book should be in all VB and DB programmers libraries!

I have also read Programming ADO from David Sceppa and I prefer this one because it contains a lot examples with source code. My only complain is that there is only a small C++ program and the rest are all in Visual Basic. However, this is not a big issue as it is very easy to port the samples in C++.

I have been exposed to ado from a few VB books. I wanted more understanding and more control using it. I bought this book because of the good review that it gets. This book delivers what I'm looking for. It pieces together all the different parts into a unified solid foundation. The coverage is comprehensive. Recommended for VB database developers.

The book contained many examples of sample code. For myself, who is not an expert in the subject, this was valuable.I also liked that it was written in a tone that while instructive for both novice and expert, didn't "talk down" to someone who isn't up to speed on all the concepts. This is important to me in that I must interface with those experts and by using this book, I was able to ask intelligent questions and avoid asking the "dumb questions".It was well organized and finding specific information was quite easy. If it is possible to learn the art and science (and business) of hypnotherapy from a book, then Clavin D. Banyan's "Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy: Basic and Advanced Techniques and Procedures for the Professional," could be that book. As doubtful as that prospect may be, this is an excellent and comprehensive textbook that will be particularly useful for the experienced professional hypnotherapist, and serve as a comprehensive introduction for the novice.For those like me, who have a strong interest in the field, but are not involved in the occupation, there is still a great deal to be gained. Banyan writes with confidence and great authority. He obviously is a masterful practitioner and a great teacher. He is a hypnotherapist's hypnotherapist.Written in 180 numbered sections, Banyan covers the basics and the advanced. He explains how to prepare and hypnotize a client, and gives excellent descriptions of the nuts and bolts: induction, deepening, emerging, making suggestions, identifying convincers, age regression, and Banyan's Five Phase Abreactive Therapeutic Hypnosis.But there's much more: How to start and maintain a business, how to talk to clients, anticipate needs, and measures to take to guarantee a successful session.This is an excellent introduction, refresher, and continuing education for practitioners.

I've been studying hypnosis and hypnotherapy since a time ago, and had some JONATHAN ROYLE courses, he's the best hypnotherapist and hypnotist I think, but I decided to buy this book because I've watched some videos from CALVIN BANYAN before on youtube, and I liked it, the way he explains things are very clear,and he usually details everything, this book is a great complement to any course,I recommend it to anyone who is looking for ideas wanting to learn a little more about hypnotherapy/hypnosis, it's a very interesting book,I'm happy I bought it, and again, I recommend it, and it's a book that deserves to be shown on the book shelf,specially on your new hypnotherapy office's shelf !

To become a certified Hypnotherapist/consulting hypnotist, you start with the basics and can stop there and help some people. But the power, the real healing power in hypnosis is in the advanced techniques Cal reveals in this book. The book, like his advanced training approach called 5-Path, surpasses others in it's step by step approach - it is clear, cohert and well structured. This takes advanced and complicated techniques and makes them easy to grasp and apply. I really appreciated the integration of many advanced techniques into a process that I could learn and start using.So if you are interested in hypnosis at all, start at the end and read this book first, then you will really know if helping people with hypnosis is really right for you. You may just find that hypnosis may not be what you think...I guarantee you, it is so much more!

I bought this book several years ago when I was starting my own hypnotehrapy practice. It had all the answers to all the questions that weren't covered in the basic NGH Certified Hypnotist training, or in all of the advanced hypnosis training I'd taken, or in all of the additional basic counseling training I'd taken. The info is in here. :)After I read it, I then recommended it to several hypno-friends (who had been classmates) and they also RAVED about it! Well done! It should be required reading for all new hypnotists.

I selected this book thinking it would be directed at the "professional" (I'm a lawyer who has dealt quite a bit with medical/complex contractual issues), but found it was another "how to set up your hypnotherapy practice" book.I was more interested in something discussing the inner workings of hypnosis as a phenomenon. How does it work, neuropsychologically speaking? While this book has some interesting tidbits from working hypnotherapist, it has little of what I was looking for.

Clearly written with excellent coverage, this is one of the best texts available. Although some basic elements of hypnotherapy are discussed this is mainly a book for the experienced practitioner. Both authors are masters of their subject and bring a wealth of clinical experience to the table.In particular, Banyan and Kein provide a systematic approach to resolving client issues. This is initiated by carefully preparing the client (very important) so as to minimise possible intellectual resistance and/or any misinformed preconceptions about how hypnotherapy works. Subsequent sessions follow a carefully planned sequence which identifies and then importantly 'heals' and mediates the components of the causal event.The authors provide a thoughtful approach. This recognises that hypnotic suggestions (although often beneficial) have their limitations in comparison to well structured age regression. Concise explanation of Hypnotherapy for the beginner. No fluff or filler, lots of effective suggestions and explainations. This should be a staple in every Hypnosis library.

This book is obviously professionally written. The only contention I had with the book was that it was misleading in the description that it explains how to preform hypnosis. It does not do that. This book is written for the professional Hypnotherapist and not a novice person who wants to gain an understanding on how hypnosis works and is performed. The book essentially explains what things you can do to better your skills once you attain the basics of hypnosis/hypnotherapy. It goes on about how you can use such and such method to each a desired outcome but assumes you know how to perform that method. So it is definately not a beginners book. With that said, the reviews are correct in saying that it is written in a style for everyone to understand. It is very readable and well written.
